New Tribes Language and Linguistics Institute
September 1990
What we have been doing:
Since returning here in Aug. we have been very busy. The first 3 weeks we spent doing a linguistic analysis of a Mexican tribal language called Sierra Popo-Luca. Our minds have been thoroughly stretched and challenged.
What we’re doing now:
Presently we are looking at many linguistic procedures in more detail. We do this by practice and more practice on various language samples. The exposure to diverse languages will be very helpful when trying to understand a tribal language that has never before been learned.
What we will be doing:
Even now we are making preparations for a 4-week long ‘live-language’ field trip. During the month of October we will be going to Kansas City to live near and work with a community of Hmong people. Some believers from this community will work for us as language helpers to simulate a tribal language learning situation.,
David -Eye Surgery
Eye muscle surgery has been recommended since I have good vision and my only problem is that my left eye points inward causing extreme double-vision. The technical name for the problem is Esotropia and a ‘simple’ outpatient surgery is all that is involved. I already have a very strong prism in my glasses which is still not enough to eliminate the double-vision, and it is likely that this has been the cause of more frequent headaches. Right now we are unable to go ahead with the surgery but, we are asking God to provide funds according to His will.
How you can pray for us:
- For health and sharp minds.
- For the ‘live-language’ trip to be very profitable.
- For David’s eye surgery.
- For sensitive hearts.
- For the Dolashes as they have just returned to Colombia.
