April 1994 Back in PNG

April 19, 1994 by David and Shari Ogg

Dear Friends,

It sure is good to be home again after five months of living out of a suitcase! We so enjoyed our time with family and also with many friends. It was good but we were ready to return because God has a big job for us here in PAPUA NEW GUINEA, more specifically with the SIMBARI people. And so, after 22 hours of sitting on an airplane and another 10 hours sitting in airports, we made it!

After arriving we spent the first five days at Numonohi Christian Academy (our NTM school for missionary children) with our partners Dennis and Jeanne Best. They have been out of the tribe for a few months because of some health problems with their daughter Renata. We were able to catch up for lost time and had some great fellowship. Our family then flew out to the jungle to settle back into our home and into Simbari life. It has been a wonderful reunion with our Simbari friends and we spent many days having them in our home and showing them pictures of our time in the U.S.

Since being back in the bush David has been busy finishing his office and getting it ready for language study again. (Before we left he had torn it down because it was infested by wood bores as a result of inferior materials) Since it was being rebuilt anyway he built it larger this time so now there will be room for pacing the floor as he is memorizing Simbari phrases. He will finish it this week and then we will be going out to Goroka for our Highlands Regional Meetings. When we return from meetings we will be able to begin language study immediately.

Esther and Simon are doing real well and are very happy to be home again. There is so much open space for them to play now and it’s nice not having to worry about streets. After Esther turns five years old in June, Shari will begin teaching her pre-school.

Announcing: New addition to the Ogg family due in September!

When we are out for meetings we will be taking Shari to get an ultrasound. This will help us to know how things are going, and talking with the doctor will help us to know how to plan. That’s all for now, thank you for your Support and prayers.

Reaching the Simbaris for Christ,

David and Shari Ogg (Esther & Simon)
