Abomination
In a nearby Simbari village several young men from a particular clan have died recently and so according to their animistic traditions they planned to bring in a live pig, sacrifice it and use it’s blood to purify the ground where the clan lives. We have been continuing our study through the book of Mark with the Simbari believers on Sundays. This last week our teachers were preparing for the lesson in Chapter 13 and we had a teachers meeting on Wednesday. During the meeting when talking about the “Abomination of desolation” we discussed how this pig sacrifice was also an abomination to God. One of our teachers, Raymond, is from the clan where the men have been dying lately. Later in the week, after our Bible study, he pleaded with his people to not do the pig sacrifice and gave testimony of his faith in the shed blood of Jesus. But they refused to listen to him so he told them he didn’t want to have anything to do with it. So today, Sunday, while the others were doing the pig sacrifice in Raymond’s home village with most of the community there to watch, this small group of believers stayed away and met for Sunday worship in our location. So while their friends and families participated in the pig sacrifice these believers in Jesus on the other hand were rejoicing in the power of God, His plan for the future and that “Heaven and earth shall pass away but (Jesus) words will not pass away”. Our Sunday service went on for about 3 hours and afterwards the believers were slow to leave. Their hearts are heavy for all the people who are rejecting God’s Word. They said they want to start a Bible teaching class again both on weekday evenings and on Friday mornings at the village market in the hope that their friends and families will turn to the Savior. Please pray for them to be strong in the face of opposition and to be clear in their testimonies for Christ.
Need For Dorm Parents
This semester there are 2 dorms and the dorm parents in one of them are pulling out midterm. (One of their own children has been chronically ill) This is putting the dorm situation in a real pinch and even though our kids are in the other dorm it could still affect them. The school committee is in the difficult position of needing to ask different qualified people about leaving their present ministries to fill the need for dorm parents. Please be praying for them to be able to find replacements both for now as well as next year. We can’t help but think that God could use some of you out there in such a ministry. 🙂
Supplies Arrived
In our last update we asked you to pray about our supplies that were in transit by container. Thank you for praying. They have all made it here safely but there is still a box of books for homeschooling Rachel that was coming by mail but is long overdue. Please pray that we’ll get those books soon so Rachel can get started on her 4th grade studies.
Thanks for praying,
David & Shari Ogg
(Esther, Simon, Rachel & Jason too)
