After a very long wait Gwandambi finally received a much needed surgery on his leg.
He had been flown out of the tribe to town twice and has been in and out of hospitals with little progress. Our former co-workers, Dennis & Jeanne Best and their daughter and son-in-law Larissa & Joseph Colyn are currently serving in the Goroka area. They began to get more involved and were able to help get him in to see a bone specialist at a hospital in a town a few hours away from Goroka. The doctor said Gwandambi needed to be admitted immediately and would need 3 surgeries. The cost for all three surgeries was going to be K1000.00 (about $400 US dollars) and at hearing the cost Gwandambi’s parents began to cry because they didn’t know how they would be able to pay. But Joseph was able to tell them that the cost was already covered. Special gifts from a VBS offering at GBC and other concerned individuals have completely covered the cost of Gwandambi’s flights, surgeries and accommodation.
We just received news that Gwandambi had a 5-hour surgery today and two pins were put in his leg. One in the femur and one lower down the leg. He is in a lot of pain and it is hard for his parents to see him this way. Please pray for Gwandambi and his parents, Rison and Jeris. What a blessing to be part of the body of Christ and to see each member of the body serving one another in love for the glory of Christ.
We only have about a week and a half left of our home assignment so we are busy getting all packed up and, Lord willing, will be back in PNG very soon! Pray for us too as we say goodbye again to family and friends. No matter how many times we do it, it never gets any easier. This time is a little different because a Global Outreach team from GBC will be coming not long after us and we will all go into the tribe together. Please pray for the weather and airstrip conditions, each of which could affect our travel plans. Please pray also for the team as they minister God’s love to the Simbari believers.
