Ogg’s October Update

October 5, 2021 by David and Shari Ogg

Proofing Progress

We have continued to read over proofs sent to us by the formatter. The most common thing we are dealing with is entering manual hyphen breaks on the long words. But we are also looking for punctuation or text that needs adjusted. When we adjust hyphen breaks the software reflows the text and so we need to look over it again to make sure no new undesired word breaks were introduced. Once everything looks good then we move on to the next book. We have made it through about 8,000 of the 10,000 verses so it won’t be long before we can order a sample hardcopy. That will give us one last chance to look over how the formatting looks before ordering a lot of copies to be printed. Thank you so much for praying for this process – God has answered and is giving us wisdom in finding problems and adjusting them as necessary.

Five People Groups

In our last update we mentioned about the multi-language group Bible conference the Simbari believers were planning to attend. It turns out that 28 Simbari people hiked over the mountains to attend and they were greatly encouraged. David’s translation helper, Raymond, was one of the speakers. Five people groups were represented. Pray for these dear brothers and sisters in Christ who are living in very remote places, that they would treasure the Gospel of Christ above all else.

Family

Last month David’s parents invited the family to join them at their favorite timeshare in Kauai so we used frequent flyer miles and took a little break from proofreading for some wonderful family time at the beach. Not everyone in the family could make it but we still had a pretty big group of 12 people from 4 generations.

PNG Travel

PNG has tightened their international travel restrictions. It has been over a year since we last visited but we are holding out until we finish printing the Simbari Bible before we make another trip to PNG. We are hoping that the restrictions will lighten up by then. After that we plan on continuing to work on more resources for the Simbari church from our home in California and making annual trips to PNG to visit and work with the Simbari believers.
