Are you living as if Jesus could come back today? Jesus asked the same question in Matthew 24:36-50. In Matt 24:44-50 Jesus tells a story about a master who leaves his house in the hands of his servants, then goes away for a while. The servants don’t know when the master will return. Jesus asks the question, “What will it be like for the servant who thinks, “My master is delayed, I don’t need to worry about his return. I can do as I please.” Only to have the master return and find his house in disarray.”
Jesus says to us, (Matt 24:44) “You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected.” Are you living as if He could come back today? He desires to use your life to help people to know Him. In Proverbs 12 we see a few things God desires to use our lives for:
- Prov 12:6 The words of the Godly save lives
- Prov 12:14 Wise words bring many benefits, and hard work brings rewards
- Prov 12:26 The godly give good advice to their friends, the wicked lead them astray
How can we live this way? What is it going to take for you to be ready? We
need to be strengthened, not by our might, nor by our power, but by the strength of the Mighty One, our Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. In Gen 29:24 that was Jacob’s testimony of Joseph. Jacob said, “They shot at him and harassed him, but his arms were strengthened by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, by the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. That is where we need to draw our strength for each moment!
I love the words of the old hymn, “He Giveth More Grace.”
When we have exhausted our store of endurance
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun
His love has no limit, His grace has no measure
His pow’r has no boundary known unto men
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again
I pray that you will draw upon the riches of God’s grace today. That you will see the bankruptcy of your own horded resources, and seek the Mighty One, your Shepherd, the Rock of Israel. That you will find his unlimited love, his measureless grace, and the power that has no boundary. And that you will be available to speak words that give life today. I pray you will be found as a faithful servant if Jesus comes today!
