2010 was a mixture of anxieties, opportunities, disappointments, renewed hope, and a fresh start – with a milestone thrown in for good measure.
After the disappointment of not being able to go back to Senegal at the end of 2009, it was exciting to have a new ministry opportunity open up early in the year. It was decided to use our trip in March to the NTM home office in Florida as an early wedding anniversary present to ourselves. July 1st Dean and I would reach a milestone; we would celebrate 10 years of marriage. I really enjoyed getting away for that 5 days without the kids. I returned from Florida with a sense of renewed hope for the future.
In April Dean and I made the final decision to go to Florida. The summer was crazy busy with packing up and leaving our house, family, friends, school, and church in PA. Moving to Florida in July was a really big deal! We could not have handled it without the prayers, support and help of family and friends. All I can say is, “Thank you God for providing for us and sustaining us during that transition time”. I’m feeling comfortably settled into our new house, ministry, school, neighborhood and church. After all the anxiety and uncertainty of the past 3 years it is such a blessing to have some stability and clear direction for the next 4 years; it is a fresh start for us.
I was deeply grieved by the Grace Report that came out in September regarding the abuse that occurred at the NTM Fanda missionary school in Senegal during the 80’s and 90’s. God has been helping me work through this with the help of counseling.
In December we missed being able to spend the holidays with family but the Lord richly blessed us. I appreciated being able to play games, do Christmas crafts and hang out with the kids over the break. It was nice to celebrate Christmas and the New Year with new friends.
