This last week I got the rare opportunity to tag along with a veteran missionary couple as they said goodbye to the tribe they have worked in for the last 24 years. I acted as a helper as we landed on the jungle airstrip and commenced hiking through the jungle trail to arrive at one of the villages they worked in. Our trip went from Monday until Thursday and it was a very special time for all.
Since they are in their mid-60’s, they had come up with a plan to use old inner tube tires to float down the river. That part was very fun!!! Unfortunately on our return, we had to hike the 3 hours plus back to the airstrip through the muddy and dense jungle terrain.
It was neat to see all the believers and amazingly I recognized many folks whom I had met at different places throughout the years.
It was a fantastic trip and the missionary family from England left the dear folks with the entire New Testament translated, some teaching materials, blackboards for teaching literacy, primers for practicing reading, teaching elders in place, and most importantly a reminder that the Holy Spirit is with them to lead and guide their church.
LaShawn and girls stayed back and they all did a great job while daddy was away. I was greeted back home with many hugs and kisses and lots of pictures and drawings!
