One of my responsibilities as supply buyer is “airport runs”. Basically, I am responsible for getting all the supplies that we have packed to the airport as well as take missionaries to the plane and pick them up.
I find it very time consuming yet very rewarding. I get to meet and fellowship with my fellow missionaries serving in various areas going back and forth and it gets me out of the office, on out and about trips.
Another plus is that it is something I can take my girls along with. Yesterday, Macy went down with me twice and then on the last trip I took all 4 girls with me. Luckily, Allie is a good babysitter and taking Livia was a special treat! Those are the moments I count as a privilege to be a part of this ministry!
But as good as airport runs are, they have a down side too. One of the tasks I had to do on our airport run yesterday was pick up a dead body from the morgue. I must say today wasn’t as bad as other times and Macy was rather clueless on what was happening as the body was a baby and already in its coffin.
But to see a young dead life is always very weighing on the heart. It is a big reminder of sin and what it brought to this earth (death and separation). The only good news out of the whole thing was the young lady who lost her still born baby is a believer. So she knows that one day she will see her little baby again!
There have been other times when the bodies I have picked up has been heart wrenching. I remember seeing a dead baby a few years ago who was the same age as Macy. It was right after she had come close to death shortly after her birth. I remember just praising the Lord for allowing Macy to live! Now here years later she came with me. Fortunately I don’t have to do that too much but it is part of the job
