Our new culture & language students are here! Their flights were delayed by several days due to a winter storm in North America, but they arrived safely on Mar. 25 and 26 respectively. Their first few days were filled with trying to get over jet lag, shopping, setting up their houses, getting to know our team a little bit, and starting their field orientation classes (which happen once a week.) After their first week, they had two days of kick-off to get them started in culture and language acquisition, and they are now in their 1 ½ week “warm-up” period. During warm-up they’ll spend a lot of time out and about in their neighborhoods, meeting people, listening to the sounds of the language, observing what daily life looks like in this context, and making plans for their stage 1 studies. Their stage 1 kick-off class will be on April 16. Thanks so much for praying for us and for these new coworkers during this busy time.
Right before our new students arrived, we as a family went to another town for 5 days to renew Tyndale’s passport and have a few vacation days as a family. We had a great time together swimming, relaxing, watching a movie, and walking across to a big mall for supper each evening to enjoy food options that we don’t normally have.
It’s still rainy season here, but the rains are becoming slightly less frequent and the weather patterns are changing subtly. Now instead of all day cloud cover and drizzle, we get sunshine in the morning, a rainstorm around noon, and sunshine again later in the afternoon. Within another couple of months we should be starting into our 4- to 5-month-long dry season.
Thanks so much for lifting us up in prayer.
