Their fatalistic world view

March 25, 2011 by Nadia Hattingh

Have you ever seen a baby dying of Aids?

We have written about 2 months ago about Carolina who died of Aids, leaving several children including baby Abu – then just 4 months old. Abu’s aunt adopted him, and in the process her husband left her… She then was also diagnosed as being HIV +.

Abu now has full blown Aids. His little body so thin and weak that his cry is a weak breathless wail.

Two women in South Africa send money to buy Abu baby formula (milk). We bought it and I spend a morning explaining and showing them how to use it. However, whenever I visit, Abu is terribly dehydrated and very thirsty. I suspect that the fatalistic world view of our neighbours prevents them from giving the precious milk to a sick and dying baby. Basically it seems like they are leaving Abu to die. It is heart breaking beyond words.

How to pray?

Lord, have mercy on this baby!

Have mercy on the Mwinika people! Their sin is killing them, even to the next generations. Lord, save the Mwinika people – soon.
