Nelda died

July 31, 2013 by Nadia Hattingh

We just heard that Nelda died.

I was with her just half and hour ago. This is a huge blow for Salim, his family and the whole community. Please pray for Salim and his wife as they go through this terrible grief.

The saddest thing of all: it may have been prevented. This morning I took a friend who had a miscarriage to the local clinic and there heard that many people now have a malaria resistant to the usual medicine. Nelda was treated and briefly got better as I wrote before. However, when she got sick again and her family refused to take her to the hospital, we all assumed it was something else… When I heard about the resistant malaria, something clicked in my mind and as soon as I could took a malaria test to Salim’s house.

Nelda tested positive for malaria. I gave her what the nurse at the clinic suggested, but it was too late. Within half an hour she died.

We all need your prayers.
