Do we believe in religion or in God?

August 21, 2013 by Nadia Hattingh

Vrydag, the traditional religious leader who has given himself whole heartedly to Christ, was teaching on the meeting between Jesus and Nicodemus. He said:

“My friends, I am talking to you now in plain eMwinika. I am not speaking to you with crooked words: our religion deceived us. It taught us that by works we will please God, but it is not true. Do we believe in religion, or in God? Here we hear that Jesus said to this religious man, Nicodemus, that unless he is born again, he will not go to be with God; you cannot please God by doing things. In the religious book [we used before now] it did mention Jesus, but it did not explain Who he is and what He did for us. Now we know.“

After explaining what “born again” means, he continued:

“YOU must be born again… Did you hear that? You must decide on your own! You cannot look to your neighbour or other people to see what they are choosing. You must choose for yourself! Don’t watch and see what the others are going to do, you must decide: do I want to believe in Jesus or no?.”

During the discussion time, one guy said: “If we do not believe these words that God is teaching us today, we must be crazy! No one can say that God’s way is not the only way to save us. It is true.”

Praise God for the Truth that is slowly dawning on the Mwinika people. Everyone who is coming to the teaching Tuesday through Friday believe what they hear through the teaching and Scripture, is true. May they not only believe it with their minds, but accept it with their whole heart!
