Some of you may have heard about the current unrest in Mozambique. It is the third time we are in the country during pre-elections and every time we have seen similar things happening. We feel therefore that there is no reason for panic.
Still, the conflict is escalating as the election date nears (20 Nov.) and we do not want to be unprepared if things have a sudden change for the worst. We have a security coordinator in the country with our mission and he is keeping us all up to date and informed. We are ready in case of evacuation.
Although we do not want to disregard the seriousness of the various clashes, we are not worried. We trust that the Lord is in control of this situation.
We ask your prayers, especially for our Mwinika friends and neighbours who are very afraid that these disputes will lead to another civil war. One friend said yesterday: “We are very tired of war. We only want peace!” We doubt if things will escalate into war. Still, pray for peace in this country. Most of all pray that people’s eyes will be opened to accept Christ as the only Prince of Peace. May He be glorified even in this!
