The visit up north We enjoyed our visit tremendously! How refreshing to tell a joke … and have everyone laughing at it! 🙂 Humour is somehow a very cultural thing and being able to communicate in one’s mother tongue is relaxing and easy. It was also restful, since they, like us live close to the coast. However they, unlike us, have a beautiful local beach – a real tourist attraction! We will let the pictures speak for itself…
The sunset that met us on our arrival !
The sunset closer up. How magnificent our Lord who made sunsets like these for our pleasure!
Our kids couldn’t believe that their friends can also speak Afrikaans. As we made ready to go, Waldo asked: “Mom, are you SURE they still speak Afrikaans?” It very seldom happens here that they can play in their mother tongue! 🙂 On this picture, they are playing “emergency-emergency”. Helene (on the right) is the doctor (since her dad is a doctor) and Franco (here the patient) was the ambulance driver – now met with an accident himself (since his dad often is the local “ambulance driver” – hopefully NOT meeting with an accident!). Heide-Marie was the nurse (since her mom often “plays” nurse!). Amazing… I only realize while writing this how significant their roles during their make believe play were… The de Kruijffs have three children 6, 4 and 2 years old, but despite their being much younger than our kids, they all enjoyed endless hours of joyful play.
Francois having a stare-down with a local dog! We enjoyed the beach a few times – most beautiful and fairly private, if the dog would allow us some space :)! All this because of a local missionary couple that owns the house bordering this beach. They gladly opened their place for us to enjoy, seeing this as part of their ministry!
Family photo with the youngest two de Kruijffs taken at sunset by their mom. This was a visit of meeting up with long time friends! Another friend (his wife and he are working under the Mwani people on an island close by) and their eldest son came to the main land and we could visit with them too! Our friends went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable… Thank you Arie, Marie and Theo! The visit ended with a (once a month) fellowship time together with some expat believers. (We met with Ghanaian, Swedish, British, Canadian, Ugandan, Mozambican, African-American and other believers – how much fun heaven is going to be!). They invited us to share some of the work the Lord is doing here in Mwinikaland… A privilege to have them pray for us! How great is our God.
