Greetings. We said in an earlier update that there are three saved young men whom Mahan is disciplining to teach God’s Word. They are helping him teach the evangelistic phase to forty unsaved young people. Mahan is very pleased with the progress his disciples are making. One, Jhosua, has been away for couple of weeks visiting his home village, but Jundrey and Ipel have been attending all of the meetings. They recently taught a whole lesson following Mahan’s excellent way of teaching which is to read a portion of the lesson, explain further, and then ask listeners questions about what they heard. At this point Mahan adds to their explanations when necessary. It is unusual for new Bible teachers to progress so rapidly. Thank you for PRAYING for them. Please continue to PRAY that they will continue on teaching and after finishing teaching the forty two lesson evangelistic phase with Mahan they will be able to teach it all by themselves. There are many villages where the Manubu’ haven’t heard the true gospel of salvation by grace through faith and not of works. But, presently there are no Manubu’ Bible teachers available to go to those villages.
Please also continue to PRAY for the forty young people who are listening. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they all get saved and go on with the Lord? And some of them become Bible teachers?
We have already received some response from our email about our project to help people with getting diagnosed for TB. The believers here in our village have formed a committee to oversee this project. They already have a list of 21 people in our village who are showing symptoms of TB. Please PRAY that arrangements came be made at the hospital a few hours away so there will be enough supplies there to x-ray that many people so their trip there for x-rays won’t be wasted. It is hoped that they can all go for x-rays in mid-November.
One of the believers on the committee has asked the mayor, who is a few hours away from us, if the government can help with transportation to the hospital. The government trucks wouldn’t be able to make it to our village because the road is so bad, but maybe they will be able to help transport once the people get to the lowlands by “skylab” motorcycles – bikes with a platform on both sides so they can carry quite a few people.
So, please PRAY that the x-ray plans will would out and that the government will have or quickly get enough stock of medicine to treat however many need treatment. We plan to stock some medicine for the times the government runs out, but presently we don’t have funds for very much.
Some people have asked how Gene is doing. He had a few days when it seemed as though his situation of dizziness, weak spells, and loud hissing in the ears as a result of his stroke was regressing. But, today and yesterday he has been doing much better. He has been doing an exercise for vertigo and taking a homeopathic remedy for it and not using salt. Don’t know which or if all are helping, but something is. Please keep PRAYING for recovery.
We praise the Lord that In spite of the dizziness, Gene and his translation helper have been able to do the final revision of 40 Bible lessons during the nine weeks we have been back here in our village.
Please PRAY for Carol – it is a tremendous job for her to make all the corrections in the computer and convert them all to the lowland dialect we also serve, and then to also put in the computer the corrections the lowland translation helpers make. On top of that she has been formatting lessons into book format, converting them to PDF files, and printing enough books for the teachers presently teaching the evangelistic phase. It can get confusing when she also has to leave off what she is doing on the computer and go to the door many times a day as people come for one reason or another.
Please also PRAY for our new and newly saved son-in-law, Howie. He has a severe back problem, is in a lot of pain, and his company insurance my not pay for the needed surgery because he hasn’t been with that company very long.
Lots to pray for. But, we know that many are praying – we can see the results! Thank you.
