FEAR!

June 16, 2015 by Gordon and Janet Wohlgemut

Several years ago, when we were studying the Abelam language and culture, (in Papua New Guinea (PNG)), Gordon went to observe a funeral in a nearby village. During the middle of the night, he decided to walk home. About half a mile. Those that were still awake urged him to stay, but he came on home. The next morning, the word spread far and wide that the missionary had WALKED HOME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT! BY HIMSELF! And he wasn’t eaten or otherwise harmed by the spirits! He was suddenly famous for his bravery.

So we got one of our first glimpses into the fear those people lived with. Now we know that it’s a common thread through much of the world. Fear of the supernatural. Fear of the spirits. Fear of retaliation. Fear of many things.
Unfortunately, that fear can linger even after people come to know the Lord.

So Gordon wrote a book about Satan taken from the Bible and showed how Christ’s defeat of Satan can be ours on a daily basis and that we need not fear. Two years ago he went to PNG to teach the first half of the book. Hundreds came to listen and all begged for a copy of the book. Now the full book is being printed in Ireland. He’s going back June 29th for six weeks to introduce the book to different groups of leaders and several new areas and to do some research for the next book.

Please pray that he’ll be where he needs to be throughout his time. And that those who need to hear will be able to get to one of the conferences. Also for safety and good health. And for our friend, Ken, who will be with him for two of those weeks. And for the Truth of the Word to continue to spread around PNG. And pray for me as I back-translate the book into English so others can translate it into other languages.
Thank you!

Thank You! And glory to God for all you are doing and the insights he has given you. We would like to be able to get the book when it is available. The fear is the same here with the Navajo. And Jesus is the answer

    Father,
I thank you so much for the work that Gordon and Janet have done in getting the Gospel to the un-reached tribes of people in New Guinea! I would ask that you continue to guide and direct each, according to your will, so that the message and power of Jesus, would free those living in bondage to sin and fear. Continue to give boldness to Gordon that he may preach and teach with power from on High, that people would see You, as the only source. Protect them from the evil one with your mighty angels as they travel. Speak through them by Your Spirit exactly what needs to be spoken, that it may strengthen and encourage the tribal brothers and sisters to have the same courage and boldness to preach the Gospel to their friends and neighbors. We look forward Father, to meeting many of my fellow tribal brothers and sisters in the Lord, when you gather up your church! Thank you for Gordon and Janet and continue to bless their work. In Jesus name, Amen.
