What do people believe here? Well, consider the first chapter of the book Paul wrote to the Romans…”professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image…they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator…”
The traditional belief of most Joola people is to believe that there is a supreme God but to communicate with Him, one must communicate with other spirits and perform sacrifices and other acts that appease them. A lot of energy, finances, and resources go towards this. Their spiritual beliefs are also connected to funerals and again, much energy, finances and resources must be spent for funerals. People also feel a deep connection to their community and anything they do or do not do affects their family and friends as well as themselves. It is difficult for anyone to come out of this system because they will feel isolated and may be gripped by fear. People will tell you that if you do not do what you should spiritually, the spirits will hurt you or someone in your family or even make someone die. The term, “spiritual battle” takes on more meaning here. Satan is active and people do not even realize that they are calling on demons to intervene in their lives daily. They do not understand the Truth and are in prison to this system of spirit worship. Pray that their eyes would be opened to the Truth! Pray that they see the faulty ideas in their current way of thinking. Pray for us and other believers here to be a light and clear witness to the truth and life that comes by faith in Jesus Christ! Despite their unbelief, God has not forgotten them. He is building His church here! Pray that the gates of hell will not prevail against it in the name of Jesus, Amen!
