An unwritten language

September 29, 2017 by heather_badiane

We are planing for a literacy workshop.  We need 20,000 words typed in Joola.  Sounds simple, right? But this language has no books, no dictionary, and no Bible. We now have a keyboard and the guys are working on typing up some recorded texts to get to our goal.  We are grateful that our co-workers that returned to Europe are helping us too!  We meet together on Thursdays via Skype to discuss spellings of words.  We all need to spell the words the same if we are to have an organized written language.  Our co-worker has had some linguistic training and had worked on coming up with the alphabet so we are so blessed that she is still part of our team!
