You gotta figure God is trying to tell you something when you come across the same biblical truths in the course of a day.
Earlier this week my devotions took me to 1 Corinthians 1, where I read from one of my Bible translations, “Through Christ Jesus you have become rich in every way …. Therefore you don’t lack any gift ….”
And reading that, I thought about the fact that, first, I really don’t have any unmet needs, and second, that what I really need — what God knows I truly need — is Him and more of Him and Him alone. That made an impression on me, but apparently not enough of an impression.
A very short time after that, I opened a drawer and saw a sticky note that a former co-worker had attached to the bottom of a tea box — a note I had never noticed before — and it said:
“But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Psalm 34:10.
That reinforced what God said to me earlier, and it got me thinking: Have I been giving you the correct message?
We’ve put three projects before you recently, and you’ve responded and funded two of them. Thanks! But as much as we “need” that help — and the help of our regular monthly supporters — to carry out our ministry, there’s a much more important reason that we tell you about projects.
We want you to have opportunities to “get more God,” so to speak.
Some of you have discovered the joy and blessing of giving, so you already appreciate these opportunities.
Others of you are perhaps like me. Materialism is a problem in America. It’s a problem for most Christian Americans. OK, it’s a problem for me too. How about you?
The best way I know to deal with it is by giving. Giving back to God more of what He has entrusted to you cuts the legs out from under materialism and builds your faith.
Thank you for giving us an opportunity to help you!
