‘He rebelled against God?’

Tossito couldn’t believe what he had just heard.

He’d been helping Dave Ward develop evangelistic Bible lessons for the Brooke’s Point Palawano people, so he was getting a preview of what the rest of his people would soon be hearing. Dave is working on some of the first lessons, and he was telling Tossito about Lucifer.

When he told Tossito that God gave Lucifer a position over the other angels, but Lucifer rebelled and one-third of the angels joined him, Tossito was stunned.

“Na! Na! Na! Na! No way!” Tossito said, “He rebelled against God? No way! Why?”

What an excellent question. Lucifier was a creation of God. God gave him a position because he was created for that position, not because he earned it or merited. It was God’s choice. Why would Lucifer rebel against God?

Same reason you and I do. Pride. We’re created by God. We have a position as sons and daughters of God, only through the grace of God. We certainly have not earned that. Yet we rebel. We want more.

OK, maybe you don’t. Maybe you’re always content. Not me. I sometimes actually think I deserve more. Sometimes I think I deserve to be treated better.

Because sometimes I forget that the One who died for me never deserved that. And sometimes I forget that I get an opportunity to be forgiven – again and again – that Lucifer never got.

Soon, in part because of your involvement with our ministry – despite my failings and flaws – the Brooke’s Point Palawanos will hear a clear presentation of what Jesus did for them, and the forgiveness and abundant life they can find in Him.

Thank you!
