Can you imagine being unreachable for a week?
Maybe it’s just me, but because I’m on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, I am (almost) never unreachable. My cell phone (for better or for worse) brings me not just calls, but texts and emails wherever I am.
There are times when I turn off my phone, or where I don’t get a signal, but those times are few and far between.
So it was interesting this morning to read a missionary’s newsletter in which he said he was going to help a team in a tribal village, so he’d be out of touch for a week. OK, that’s just one week, right?
Sure, for him.
But for the team in the village, there was no Internet access, so no email. No phone or cell phone. Nothing but a two-way radio to check in or call in case of emergency. For months at a time.
And as I sit here and my phone vibrates in my pocket, I find that a bit foreign.
Would you pray for these missionaries who are so isolated for months at a time? Pray also that I can make times to disconnect from everything around me and connect with God.
I’m planning a backpacking trip in Northern Florida September for just that reason; pray that the weather cools off a bit for that – and not because of a tropical storm or hurricane.
