We had an amazing time in Fayetteville, when George Walker, one of my favorite instructors here at the MTC, came to share his story of living among the Bisorio people of Papua New Guinea for two decades! New Heights was packed and on the edge of their seats Sunday morning as George related the joy of seeing a church born as they learned the people’s language and taught through the Bible from Creation to Christ. New Tribes also filmed the morning service and the evening service and should be releasing the video shortly, if you weren’t able to make it!
Lael and I had the opportunity to update everyone at New Heights on where we’re at in the training…we only have one semester left of the Church planting track. Then Lael will be doing an extra semester of intense linguistic classes. The LING program will prepare her for doing the orthography (creating the alphabet) of the tribal language we’ll be working in.
The coolest part of Lael’s training will look like this: After her semester of Linguistics, Lael and I will move to a Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma where she’ll spend six weeks working with Cherokee Language helpers, to come up with her own alphabet for the Cherokee language!
This isn’t set in stone, but I’m planning to join the mobilization staff at the MTC, while Lael is doing her linguistic training. It will be a great opportunity for me to help develop strategies reaching undergraduate students with the idea of career church planting!
We also shared about how what we’re doing is not about a time commitment but a task commitment: seeing an indigenous church planted that is growing to maturity…with it’s own Bible teachers and elders. We had an amazing time worshiping with our New Heights family…it felt great to be back home and see so many familiar faces…and some new ones! We were also blessed to stay with our friends, Mike and Karen Mason! Thanks for opening your home up to us!
We’ll be living in Fayetteville all summer and can’t wait to see you all soon!
