On our third day here, I was doing my first load of laundry, hanging it on the line. Jack was in town getting his driver’s license, but I was expecting him back soon. So when a white van pulled up to our house I didn’t think anything of it, until…the Hambrices jumped out! We weren’t expecting to see them until the end of August, so I was pretty excited! Best surprise ever.
Almost. Where were the Sanders?? The morning they planned to leave Goroka, Graham got into some rat poison! They don’t know if he ate any or not, but they stayed behind a couple days to make sure he would be okay. When all his blood tests came back clear, they jumped a plane to see us too! Nora was beyond excited to see her friend Olivia! Here they are hugging right when Olivia got off the plane.
Over the course of a week, we spent many late nights talking as a team and praying together about the future. And thinking through big things like our strategy statement, where exactly we’ll be allocating, and what next steps look like as far as survey trips and conversations with leadership.
As fun as all that was, we did other things like take the kids to the beach!
They also introduced us to several of their friends from the nearby villages.
And we cooked every dinner together. 7 kids and 6 adults for that many meals was…actually not as chaotic as I thought!
The Sanders took us to the market, where we learned all about local food and met so many new people!
These friends/co-workers of ours are just like our family. We love them!!
I can’t think of a better way to have spent our first week here before our official orientation started!
