Did you ever wonder why God waited so long to give the son of promise, Isaac, to Abraham and Sarah? I always get a chuckle as I read the story in the book of Genesis where Sarah said to the Lord. “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”
Now what she was saying here could go something like this. “Now, after me and this old man have grown old can we still have pleasure in serving you?” Yes, you’re right, they had to come together to see this great plan of God unfold. How in the world will this ever happen? Hebrews tells us that all things are possible with the Lord. “Is anything to hard for the Lord, the word of God asked in Genesis 18:14?
Let me encourage you my older Christian friends that you are never too old to find pleasure in that help mate God gave you and you are never too old to serve Him. I am always reminded that Matt.28:20 just said “go.” Jesus did not say go if you are just young, pretty and in your prime, He said, “go ye.”
What does all this mean to you and me? Kick back the rocking chairs, take the wife’s hand and head for the mission field, or where ever He leads. It might be down the street or to the jungles of South America, but you can still in your old age find pleasure in serving God.
Let me leave you with these two uplifting thoughts before I close. Number one, no matter how old you are take pleasure in the mate God has given you. Looking at Abraham and Sarah we see it can be done even if we have a good laugh with them. Number two, no matter how old you have become, God can use you in missions until you depart this earth.
