Facing my future

February 2, 2018 by Jack and Jane Housley

How an old missionary faces the future.

As I look back over some of the things I have written in the past, remembering days gone by comes front and center. One of my fears as I write is that you might become bored of days gone by; and some of the things I write about happened even before you were born.

Now, as an old missionary how do you face the future you ask.  I will face my future just as the great writer Max Lucado mentions in his book Glory Days. I will face my future by remembering my past. The wonderful things God has done for me over the last 44 years in missions will be enough to fill my cup for the future and beyond.

Let me remind you that are looking for a sign that God wants you in missions and on the mission field.  The move to the mission field will be because you trusted and obeyed God’s Word, not by some special calling or sign. The Jews after seeing Jesus raise the dead; calm the winds and give sight to the blind still asked, what sign do you give that we might know that you are from God?

Let’s break in on a disciple that was looking for a sign and see what Jesus has to say to him. John 20:29, “Thomas because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen Me, and yet believed.” Jesus has commanded, “Go.” What kind of sign do we look for?

Like the two men on the road to Emmaus, Luke 24:32, your hearts will burn within you when you allow Jesus to open His Word to you; then the command to go will be your road map to the regions beyond. Yes Jesus, we believe but please help our unbelief. Jack
