Thoughts from the past
It was 1980 and I lay huddled under the mosquito net, my guardian angel that will keep watch over me through the long hot night. Hundreds of buzzing mosquitoes sing in harmony outside the net waiting for the feast coming later when in sleep my hand drops against the net.
The sound of high water rushing against the dead log lying in the river outside the small bush house worries my mind and sleep comes slow. Thoughts of the sharp bends and floating logs that come with the high water lay heavy on me. Tomorrow, once again my friend Bob and I will test our skills against this river that is wild and free but a roadway to reach people along its banks.
Memories and stories of the past waiting to be told, but I am afraid much will go to the grave with us because words do not come easy to explain the fears, thrills and the excitement that mix together and make you happy to be a part of something this wonderful. Memories and stories from the past, good or bad are foundations for steps as we move into the future.
Jesus said, go and I will go with you, but how far Lord? To the ends of the of this age He proclaims and reminds us that all authority has been given Him in heaven and on earth. Now, I ask, who would not want to go on a mission trip with Him? Move into the future with these words from the past, “Here I am Lord, send me.”
