Jacob camping out underneath the house he helped build for the night (with a broken leg)… and the next morning 8 am, the helicopter came in to take him out to the clinic!
Ready to go in the helicopter after waiting 16 hours to be picked up… arriving in Australia….. going into the Ambulance to the Hospital
All together again after 8 days of building in the jungle and 2 days of medevac and hospital busyness including surgery! – Sept 29, 2018
Thank you to all those who we have been in touch with via Facebook, as you all prayed for Jacob and our family as we were taken out of PNG suddenly due to Jacob’s accident. He fell from the roof of the above house that he and a few other guys just built this last week in Tanguat. He only had ½ hour left of work and the next day he was due to fly out. But God had other plans. He flew out the next day on a stretcher because he broke his leg due to his fall. But we are so thankful that it is the only injury, considering it was fall from about 16 feet! Even the orthopedic doctor didn’t believe that he had any injury to his spine and had to do more scans to make sure before he would go ahead with the surgery on Jacob’s leg.
Jacob had a nail and screw put in his leg yesterday. Although, Jacob says the nail looks more like a rod. Jacob will be in the hospital recovering for 2-3 more days before he is discharged. Than we will need to stay close by so he can continue to go in for checkups to make sure the surgeon’s incisions have healed up well. He will be looking like an old man for a while, using an intense walker, then graduating to crutches and eventually a cane. After 3 months his leg should be healed completely. And since Jacob is young, the doctors say that he will heal well. We hope to be able to return to PNG in 2 ½ weeks. Please pray for quick healing and ability to return home soon!
The kids and I are staying at a hotel near the hospital and enjoy visiting Jacob 2 times a day. But we look forward to his discharge and moving to a Wycliffe guest house not far away. It will be good to be together as a family again!!
Thank you all for your prayers, support and concerns during this crazy time!
UPDATE:October 1, 2018 – Thank you all for praying! We are now all together as a family! Jacob’s leg continues to heal, gaining a little more strength each day! I continue to gain more confidence driving on the “wrong” side of the road as I take the kids on adventures – shopping, playing at parks and to church!
UPDATE:October 9, 2018 – Jacob saw the doctor and had 40+ staples removed! The incision is healing well. But the doctor wants the incision to be completely healed, “skin to skin” so he said we should stay in Australia another 1-2 weeks. He has another appointment next week! Meanwhile Jacob is getting around on crutches when needed and taking a short walk every few days. Thanks for praying for his continued healing and full recovery!! Hopefully we will be able to go back to PNG in the next week or two!!
