The importance of being educated

August 27, 2016 by James Christensen

New Tribes provides a comprehensive education for their tribal missionaries. Through the Bible Institute and Missionary Training Center (MTC), each laborer is equipped to understand and teach the Bible, as well as the special skills required to live with and minister to an isolated people group. You know, things like learning to speak and build a house.

Many support roles don’t require the particular set of skills that are learned at the MTC. For example, a computer technician doesn’t necessarily need any special language or teaching skills.
My role in Brazil will be somewhat flexible. In other words, whatever level of knowledge and skill I have, they will be ready to use. I have several years of on-the-job experience, and a lifetime of self taught computer skills, but very little formal training. I’d like to change that. Before leaving (in 4 months?), I plan to take a class and get network certification.
