How does doing laundry turn into a dinner party?
We were preparing to get a jump on the new semester after our Christmas break by doing laundry before most of the students returned for classes. Unknowingly, that one small decision placed us in a position of hosting a spontaneous dinner party!
By inviting one student for a quick bite, (‘nothing special, just hot dogs’) our number began to increase. One invitee became two, three, and then four when friends began seeking out each other. As more kept arriving at our door, we went from one course to another as I pulled food out of the refrigerator and freezer. The six of us ended with pizza rolls and cookies. The evening held laughter for all and it was fun getting to know more students in a relaxed atmosphere.
Is this something that I intentionally set out and planned? No … but God certainly had it all worked out – even having enough food in the cupboard after being away for a week! What a neat way to begin a new semester – friends, food, and fellowship!
