Don’t you just love big brown or blue eyes looking trustingly at you? And what about little arms reaching out and wanting up to feel safe? Or holding those soft pudgy hands as you guide their little footsteps in learning to walk? And you can’t help but feel all warm inside when you bottle feed a wee one right before he falls off to sleep, right?
Being at the Bible school these past six months have definitely been a change for Jared and me. We floundered a bit in the beginning weeks. We felt so out of our comfort zone but the staff here has been great encouragers. Jared has found his niche on the maintenance team and I have learned to love and enjoy those little ones in the childcare department. As we look back we can say that it has been good and even needful.
But, as the new semester starts, there is another change coming our way. Jared will remain on the maintenance team but I have been asked to move into the Education Office. There will be a lot of new office procedures that I will learn but the real plus to this change will be the interaction with the students. Children are an avenue in building relationships and I will miss these little people, but am so thankful for how God has used them in my life.
So, as I face this change what differences am I going to see between babies, toddlers, pre-schoolers, and college students? I’m sure there will plenty of differences but what I expect is that no matter what the age “kids” love to be noticed, to have our complete attention as they speak to us, and to know that we are truly interested in what is happening in their lives. God is going to stretch me but I am truly excited about having a part in their lives and them in mine. And … I hear that the students love the fact that there is a bowl in the office that daily gets filled with candy!
