The swinging motion has done its job. Her binky dangles, its usefulness no longer needed. She doesn’t sleep long so I must catch the act as it happens. I watch her and anticipate her waking moment. She is dressed in pink and snuggled with her blanket. The room is filled with other nursery noises but she remains asleep and undisturbed. As I care for the other children I continue to look her way, watching and waiting. Waiting for that moment … and then it happens … her eyes flutter a bit and then her little arms reach high into the air. She s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s and I smile.
When our children were infants, we were told that when they stretched, they were growing. As I watched this wonderful activity of stretching, I was reminded of that, and prayed that God would grow these little ones up to love and serve Him. I also wondered if I am stretching and growing in a manner that is pleasing to the Lord. Part of the growing process for me is yielding to the Master. I love being with these little ones and getting to know their dads and moms. I am also thankful for the lessons He is teaching me through them.
