Putting on the miles…
Since our last letter we’ve put on a few more miles to Colombia and England, worked with a team from Papua New Guinea on a revision of their literacy program, and lead some annual meetings with the team that translates church planting resources into Spanish. Life is full and we thank God for each day that we can walk together with Him.
What’s next?
These next months find us enjoying time working from home! We will be welcoming a new granddaughter into the family the end of May. Connie & Joey counting down the remaining weeks until little Bella’s birth.
The literacy computer program that assists consultants and church planting teams with analyzing the language data and writing literacy books is on schedule for release this July. But there is a whole lot of work ahead. Prayers would be much appreciated for the computer programming team and us as we work through the lists of details that remain, including clear instructions for each click in the program.
We also are working to preparing for our next trips this summer in which we will be in Senegal, Ivory Coast and the Philippines. During these trips we’ll be working with 8 different languages and training literacy consultants through the process.
Please join us in praying for wisdom, strength and courage as we prepare for writing literacy materials with these 8 languages. We don’t have to learn each of these languages, but we must become very familiar with the syllable patterns and grammar of each so that we can guide the teams through the process of writing books to teach people to read. One of these languages is among the most difficult language that we’ve dealt with so far – having 9 vowels, 5 levels of tone on each vowel, lots of vowel diphthongs (or maybe you know them as vowel glides), heavy consonants which affect tone, and syllabic consonants.
Small example of language for you to see:
How we need God’s wisdom! He created all these absolutely beautiful languages and they are the means that He will communicate the Greatest Message of all to the world! Join us in asking Him for wisdom that people might have full access to His Written Word in their own language and the tool that literacy is to this. So thankful to serve our Lord together!
