Translation Update

June 20, 2013 by James and Judy Burdett

It’s June already and hard to believe that 2013 is half over. That leaves a little less than a year for us to get the Dom New Testament finalized for printing when we return for Home Assignment (furlough) in 2014. Next month we will have a consultant check for the Gospels of Luke and John and the Book of Hebrews. This will be a challenging check in terms of the sheer number of verses and the theological depth of Hebrews. Please pray for this check and for our Dom brothers that will be involved. This check will take at least two weeks of 8 hour days which will be very taxing on everyone but especially for Kapia and Bapka who will be listening to me and Gena read the text and then giving it back in Pidgin English to our consultant. The really good news is that after this check it will only be the Book of Revelation and Philemon left to check in this manner. Then that will be the end of consultant checking and we will begin the arduous task of reading through the whole Dom New Testament several times, proofing and formatting for printing.

On that note we praise God for the recent financial donations to our printing fund. We will continue to pray and trust the Lord for the remainder needed to provide a high quality printing of the Dom New Testament that will stand up to the rigors of village life. What a day it will be when Dom Christians can open their New Testaments together and read God’s Word in their own language.
