Driving Lessons in Papua New Guinea

April 2, 2026 by Joe Evans

One of the things I’m currently doing as a wrap up to my time in PNG is teaching one of the citizens employees how to drive.  This young gentleman is a newer employee to our Tribal Supply department, the people who take care of buying food for the missionaries who are in the various airplane accessible locations.

Part of his job will be going to town to go shopping, so we’ll need him to be able to drive there himself.  Since most of the people in PNG do not own cars, the ability to drive is not very common- most of our PNG Citizens do not have cars or driver’s licenses.

Of course, most of the vehicles here have manual transmissions, making the process much more complicated.  And it’s really hilly.  So, hill starts have been a big part of the practice process.

Please pray for us for safety in the process of coming up to speed with driving in this country, and for the Supply team as they take care of our remote members.
