Blessings

September 5, 2012 by Joel and Andi

One of my favorite things to do is look around at the blessings that surround us.

  • The screens are finally up and our bug population is drastically decreasing.
  • A smile on Ethan’s face after his first day of school.
  • A new cabinet in our kitchen to keep my Tupperware safe from the dust.
  • A chance to host a group of our coworkers from Dakar for lunch.
  • A day off from language (I think God knew I needed a little break)
  • A relaxing trip to the beach with our host family.
We took a day trip to the beach with our host family
All 11 of us traveled in a 5 passenger car for an hour and half, but it was worth it!
We still spent the entire day in French and cooked a full meal over a charcoal fire
But for the first time Joel and I were able to relax in the host world
The boys had a great time (once Tyler got over the shock that the beach was sandy)
Thank you God for your gentle reminder that we are making progress

One HUGE Blessing

Before we had the need, God had already lead someone to help us with exactly what we needed for Ethan’s year of schooling.  Isn’t our God just amazing?  It was just one gift, but even that one gift has made such a huge difference.

  • A great school for Ethan –  After Ethan’s first day we were so thankful for the school that God provided for him.  It is a great school and for the first time since we arrived in Africa, he actually likes going to school.  His teacher speaks a little English and he is making friends there.  I can’t tell you what a blessing this is for our whole family.
  • A new community of people – We enter one more African community and get an opportunity to build more relationships.  We pray that God will use us and Ethan to be a light to this community.
  • The testimony of how God provides –  We shared with our church here about the whole process of choosing a school for Ethan. Then later we got to testify how God provided.
  • A marker of God’s faithfulness for our children to see – Ethan was amazed as we showed him all the details that God worked out for his schooling.  Those moments when we get a chance to see how God is touching our children’s hearts are so special.

This is only one gift of many that we have received, but each gift has made a huge impact in our life and ministry here.  As I marveled at what God did this week, it made me once again so thankful for the team that surrounds us with prayers and support.  So Thank You!

Gloire a Dieu! God is so good! Every blessings he gives to you, blesses me indirectly. So thank you all the more for sharing them.

Your blog inspires and humbles me. Just think if each one of us took time to write like you do how much more aware we would be of the blessings God daily gives us. I think we (I know I speak for myself if not others) get so greedy and so demandfully expectant that we just think it is our due when good things happen to us. Praise God you are helping me to be more aware and more thankful of what God is doing in my life. And also, hopefully, more helpful to those around me. Thanks Andi. Love your blog.

Thanks for posting this! It is wonderful to see the answers to so many prayers. Our God is great, and it is good to simply be able to praise Him for so many answers! So glad to hear that Ethan’s school is such a blessing and about the great opportunity you had to show him how God provides.

And there is a grandpa in the USA who is very grateful for every gift and every giver who support my family in Senegal.

And 11 people in a five passenger car for an hour and a half? Good thing it was air conditioned, huh. (It was air conditioned, right?)
