A Trip Down South

April 26, 2013 by Joel and Andi

Last week Joel traveled down with our leadership team to visit one of the villages we have missionaries working in.  Here are some of the highlights of his trip.

Crossing Gambia – This is Joel’s first time to head down to the southern half of Senegal which requires crossing a river surrounded by a separate country.  They left Dakar at 2 am to try and beat the madness, yet even arriving so early it was still quite the adventure.  There are only two small boats that across the river and LOTS of cars who are fighting for a spot.  It is a story you will have to ask him to tell sometime.

The only way across

Visiting One of the Villages We Work In – It is one thing to hear and see pictures about where our missionaries are working, but it is quite different to see it for yourself.  It is always very exciting!

This is the village they work in
They got a taste of life there
They traveled around the village
And saw the normal sights of life
Including the local market

Talking Strategy – Joel got to listen as the team members and leadership sat down and talked strategy.  He really enjoyed hearing the discussions and gleaning from the wisdom that was present there.  The missionaries who are there are coming to the end of their language study and it is exciting to start to talk about strategies of how to share God’s word in their context.  It seems like there are always barriers and struggles to overcome, but we serve an amazing God.  Pray with us that there will be a strong body of believers worshiping God in their own language!

It is so exciting to see God working!

A Great Chance to Get Pictures For You!

We have it all here...from overloaded trucks
To small motor Bikes
They stayed in a nice small place on the beach
Even got to see how to make a palm drink
Very interesting
and complex process
That's one way to make your building stick out
Praise God for such a good trip!

Hi Andi – this is Josh Johnson from Grant HS. Wonderful blog and it’s nice to see pictures of your work. I was in Peace Corps in The Gambia and loved the village life. Spent the second year working with the Methodist Mission.
And that trip from Dakar to Banjul is a tough one, especially with a vehicle. Keep up the good work and enjoy Senegambia!
