A Little About the Boys School

December 21, 2013 by Joel and Andi

The Boys school has been a major blessing to us.  We know not every missionary has the option of a good school and especially not a good local school, so we consider ourselves very lucky.  It is not perfect by any means, but it has helped our boys in so many ways in their adaptation to life here.

Here are some of the ways this school has been a blessing to us:

  • The boys have learned French, which does not always happen here, since there are so many languages intermixed and not one that dominates
  • They are now also beginning to learning Wolof, we hope to capitalize on more at home in the future
  • The education is good as it follows the French curriculum
  • The class sizes are small (under 10 kids per grade)
  • Our kids are now more comfortable interacting with African kids, it gave them the push start they needed and the difference has been remarkable
  • It is only from 8 to 1 so I have all afternoon and evening with my boys, which I thoroughly enjoy!
  • With the kids gone in the morning, I have a window of time where I can really focus on language, culture and ministry

Pictures

Friday was the Christmas party at their school
The boys were super excited to have us come to school with them
It was fun to see them in their classroom and with their friends
Santa also made an appearance in his horse cart
Tyler wasn't sure how he would make it to our house, since his teacher told him that he comes through the chimney and we have no chimney
The boys recited and sang in French
And received lots of treats.
There was a story teller there who retold some famous Senegalese stories
We continue to be so proud of our boys and love watching them grow
We sure are blessed in so many ways!

It’s funny how sometimes the boys can look like one person then in another picture look like another. In the picture with Tyler opening the bag of treats I saw Mike but in the one with him laying on the blanket I saw Renee. Then I think Ethan reminded me of Joel when he was singing in French in the classroom.

These are wonderful pictures. Thanks again for all the work you go to so that we may all be a part of your lives. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. Be blessed and enjoy the wonder of our Lord coming to us a small babe just so He could die for us a few years later. Truly we have an incredible God.
