A Marathon Trip

April 20, 2017 by Joel and Andi

This past month marked one of the longest trips that Joel has ever taken.  What started out as 2 separate trips ended up being combined into one marathon trip.  He participated in this trip along with another couple from our leadership team.  During the trip they connected with 8 separate teams.  I was worried about the trip as it is easy to get worn down from travel and consecutive meetings, but God was really looking out for them.  They were in the car for over 50 hours, on some really interesting roads and they didn’t have any problems with the car.  They stayed healthy and were in good spirits for the whole trip.  Joel was encouraged by all the meetings they had.  It is always good to connect with those on our field and to hear what God is doing, listen to the struggles they are facing, and encourage them as they press on in the task.  It is true that when he came home he was ready to crash, but I was just praising God for how He had sustained them through this trip.  There is no way to summarize such a long trip in posts, but how about some pictures of a few of the different aspects of their journey.

Traveling in parts of Africa is quite the Adventure
But going by car allowed them to bring supplies to those they visited

Reading Scripture – It is always great to see people in ministry
With all the different aspects – this was a literacy class
So that people can read God’s word for themselves
Joel was able to surprise one of the believers we connected with in our church with showing up at his home village
It was so great to connect with each team and hear from them.  There were times in the Word, times of worship, times of strategy discussion, and much prayer!
It was great to meet those they are working with
And be with them in their daily life context
With the daily realities of life
The challenges they face
And to hear how God is over coming those challenges
Even though these trips can be long and hard to for us to be apart
We have really grown to love this aspect of our ministry
As we see how important it is to connect with people where they live
And to offer whatever encouragement we can for the long journey they are on.
