Highs and Lows

February 21, 2013 by Joel and Andi

High – Making a plan for next month.

Low  – Watching that plan disappear before my eyes

High – Having a great meeting with our host family about the progress we have made and what goals we wanted to set for the future.

Low – Being asked why I don’t learn languages as well as my husband (in a cultural way that I know was supposed to encourage me to press on, but still)

High – Entering Phase 2 of Wolof

Low – Facing the shock of the new challenges that come with the second phase

High – Welcoming 3 new families to the field of Senegal

Low – Hearing the trials they are facing and wishing I could do more (because I remember!)

High  – Celebrating the birth of a new baby in our Church

Low – Going to yet another funeral

High  – Getting away for a night with my husband (thanks to Katie)

Low –  Preparing my children to say Goodbye to their much loved nanny

High

When I think about what I have learned how to do this past year

Low

When I think about how much I have left to learn

This week was filled with highs and lows.  Sometimes it is easier to notice and get overwhelmed by all the lows we faced in our week.  However I sometimes find it helpful to stop and make note of the highs that came with those lows.  It helps to make life a little less discouraging.  Thank you God for the highs and lows.

Dear Andi, Thank you for sharing your highs and lows. Remember when you were a teacher? Not all your students learned at the same rate, and they had highs and lows. The Lord is walking through this with you. He is your Rock and High Tower, your Strength. Remember, He will never leave you or forsake you. He will give what you need. Remember who called you! Even before you were a thought in your parents’ minds, He knew you and had a purpose for your life. HUGS!!!!!!!

    Love and Prayers,

    Jeannette

A friend of mine shared a very pertinent truth lately. She quoted someone as saying something close to, “trust Him now, as it is the only opportunity in this life to do that. One day, we will see all and glorify God”.
Hang in there! Bless you for serving Jesus, way out of your comfort zone!

Way to go Andi for keeping your eyes on the Lord even in the lows. A lot of the time we get stuck in the lows and forget about the highs. Thanks for your reminder, your an amazing woman of God.
