Where Do You Begin?

July 29, 2012 by Joel Potter

After A Move…

You unpack a box, you put some dishes away in a cabinet, you setup a bed, mow the lawn and then suddenly, it’s been six weeks since you unpacked that first box! We’re well settled into our home and have even entertained several house-guests and are expecting more to come. The neighbors we share this block with have welcomed us like we never expected and we’re putting the space this home offers us to good use! You, in your partnership with us have enabled us in many ways to have this new experience!

In A New Role?

I knew that this new role as a part of our team of “Story Tellers” in New Tribes Mission would stretch me but I couldn’t have anticipated the pace that I’m attempting to keep up. And I have to say, it feels good to stretch the muscles of my brain in these new ways.

“If only I could get ‘Continuing Education’ credit for what I’m learning day in day out!”

I wonder how much help I’m being to my overworked team-mates but they tell me that just sitting in my office makes them feel better! I guess I’m hiding my “wide eyed country boy who’s seeing the big city for the first time” look well.

In Life?

Life right now could appear to be “spot on”, “just right” or even “perfect”, but if you think that you’d be mistaken. We’re incredibly blessed and we’re enjoying a season full of some very awesome things and yet, there are still many pitfalls, right below the surface. Two of our three kids will start school in 2 weeks, and for Owen this will be a brand new experience. But the state-funded scholarship that will allow them to attend the small school that NTM at a cost that we can afford has not come through yet. Our support still is much lower than is recommended and the reality of an unexpected trial is never far from the lives of any of us. So, the question – “Where do you begin?” is incredibly important!
