Church planting missionaries with NTM primarily work in the middle of people groups…who have a language that VERY FEW outsiders know any of…let alone have any fluency in. In a setting like that, how do they really learn that language? And when you think about the depth of the concepts that need to be understood to grasp the greatness of God’s love, it makes you really scratch your head in wonder about how to learn to communicate love, redemption, reconciliation and even punishment.
Well, I can tell you a little bit about how to learn a language like that – Bethany and I did have some specialized training in methods that enable you to start at ground-zero with little to no outside help – but friends of ours that Bethany and I had the privilege of helping to train while we served at New Tribes Bible Institute, are in the thick of this learning process in Papua New Guinea amidst the Kadje people. They just published a short video documenting the surprisingly simple ways of getting started.
Check out this short video from Taylor and Abby Goheen, who along with another couple, Jon and Jen Myers are diving into the literal and figurative mud of learning a totally unlike any other tribal language. And then please choose to pray for the stamina and creativity that it takes to to do this task! You can pray more informed and intentionally by subscribing to weekly prayer emails here too.
