Welcome!
We are John and Asmara Anyan. We are missionaries with New Tribes Mission and are planning on serving in Tanzania, Southeast Africa, starting in the summer of 2016. We are also parents to two energetic boys. Builders of a bicultural and bilingual home. Book worms. Coffee lovers. And, most importantly, followers of Jesus Christ and adopted children of our Most High God.
If you want to know more about who we are, here’s a summary of the Anyans’ last 30 years in under 2 minutes… Are you ready?
1984: John was born in Spokane, WA.
1986: Asmara was born many, many miles away in Southern Germany.
2002: Asmara ventured to Spokane as an exchange student to spend a year improving her English and learning about American culture. It just so happened she ended up at John’s high school!
2003: Asmara became a follower of Christ during her exchange year and started dating John only two months before she traveled back to Germany.
2006: After 3 years of long-distance dating, we celebrated our wedding on August 12!
2010: John graduated from Moody Northwest with his Bachelor in Biblical Science; Asmara graduated from Whitworth University as an English teacher.
2011: After some short-term mission trips and a class called “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement,” our passion for cross-cultural missions was ignited and the search for a mission organization was launched.
2012: Our oldest son, Judah, was born! He was quite the surprise as we had thought for several years that we could not have biological children.
2013: We moved from Washington State to Missouri to start our training with New Tribes Mission. A month into the training, our second son, Elias, was born!
December 2015: We will complete our training in Missouri as cross-cultural church planters after also having finished additional training in linguistics (for Asmara) and Greek (for John). The plan is to move back to Spokane and engage in full-time Ministry Partnership Development.
Summer 2016: Tanzania, here we come!
Thank you for joining us on this journey as we pursue the Lord’s calling in our lives to “GO” to the ends of the earth!
