The Post-Election Pole

May 9, 2016 by Jonathan and Heidi Bamford

Today was Election Day here in the Philippines and if you look at web sites
that have news from the Philippines you will see stories about exit polls.
There are many to choose from. I hate to brag, but if you want to know about
Post-Election poles you will have to read it here. This is the only site to
break the news. I believe they call that a scoop.

These men are carrying a post-election pole. It is bamboo, a strong but
flexible material. The voting machine, ballots, and voter registration
information are strapped on with strong jungle vines. An exit-pole does not
seem heavy to the men here who are used to carrying much heavier loads.

This pole started at 6 PM after the voting ended and will be about an hour
downstream by the time darkness falls. The men will continue to carry it
through the night until they reach the trailhead sometime around midnight.
There, a vehicle will take them to town and the vote of the people who we
live with in this remote place will be added to the votes of their fellow
citizens from all over the country. The job of the exit-pole will have been
successfully completed and it will be discarded unless it is lucky enough to
become part of someone’s fence. Now you know as much as I do about
Exit-Poles.

  • Prayer Requests:
For peace and safety for the Philippines and a good transition for
    new president.
  • Safety for Thomas and his friend Emily as they travel to Alaska this
    week.
  • That those who do the outreach Bible studies will be encouraged.
  • That God will help us to be a blessing to our Isnag neighbors.

Thank you for your prayers!
God bless,
Jonathan & Heidi
