Why did the dinosaurs die out? Are you a bad Christian if you don’t love everyone the same? How do we know that Christianity is true? Who created God? How is God so perfect? These are just a few of the questions we received this week as we taught a series of youth meetings for VBS at a local church. We were stunned by their response as we spent over an hour each night in serious discussion about God, Man, the Gospel, and living the Christian Life. On Monday night we taught about God as our creator and owner, and about his character as perfect, just and holy. We stressed the fact that he is so perfect that he cannot tolerate the presence of anyone who is not as perfect as he is. On Tuesday night we talked about the nature of man as God created him – perfect, and in perfect fellowship with God. Then we discussed Adam’s disobedience, and how that one act has affected all of us, and left us with no hope of ever meeting God’s perfect standard or regaining a relationship with Him. When we began the lesson Wednesday night, you could have heard a pin drop as they wrestled with our hopeless condition before a holy God. We asked, “What would have to happen for us to become perfect enough to have a relationship with God, since we can’t do it ourselves?” Someone had the bright idea that maybe someone could be perfect for us. It was incredible to watch the lights come on in their minds as we unfolded God’s plan of redemption through faith in Jesus Christ. Even for the ones who were already Christians, it was clear that they had a new understanding of what exactly Christ has accomplished for them. On Thursday night we had a question and answer time and discussed living the Christian life, and on Friday night we gave them the opportunity to “share the gospel” with us as “unbelievers” so they could put into practice the things they had learned through the week. We are so thankful for the awesome opportunity we had to share with these teens about core issues of life and for the way we see God working in their heart. Please pray that the seed that’s been sown will bring forth fruit in their lives.
