Hello to all our faithful followers!
I thought I’d give you an update on the happenings around the Simmons household. First things first, God is Awesome and He never ceases to amaze me! I’ve never seen sunsets like I have here…they’re absolutely mind blowing! Such a great testament to the creativity and majesty of the God of the Universe! On a slightly lower note, flying in the desert, and taking off and landing on 1400 ft airstrips ranks right up there with…uhhh…well, its pretty sweet! Sorry, I had writer’s block there for about 30 seconds. I’ve been flying my tail off, and loving every minute. It hasn’t been without its hiccups though. I’ve had to re-learn a lot about how far my abilities can take me and how much farther the Lord is graciously carrying me. Flying the Cessna 206 Turbo Stationair is like nothing I’ve ever flown, so not only am I learning a totally different style and way of flying, but I’m also learning a much more powerful machine. Along those lines, I’ve also been spending a lot of time cutting, bending and drilling on a sheet metal project in the hangar. I’ve been tasked with rebuilding a Cessna 206 elevator for my graded sheet metal project. I actually finished it last week as I put the finishing touches of paint on it, with the help of Doug Heft, veteran missionary pilot/mechanic and expert painter I might add. What has the rest of my family been up to you might wonder…well nothing nearly as exciting as what I’ve been doing, but I guess their exploits are worth mentioning. First things first…My wife is Wonder Woman! Hands down, she has the toughest, dirtiest, smelliest job in the family playing “MOM!” Can’t give enough credit to all those moms out there. Mel’s had an opportunity to get involved with the AWANA program at our church, which Sarah loves. Sarah is also taking ballet lessons…go figure, who would have thought there would be a place to take ballet in the middle of the desert! Sarah is thriving in Kindergarten, and lights up when she reads words or is allowed to do extra lessons in Math class. She’s been having fun memorizing “ABC verses” for school, as well as all her AWANA verses. SUCH a treasure to hear her say them with meaning! Morgan and Hannah give each other a run for their money! They’re both hardheaded and bullyish at times, but they love to laugh together and with Sarah…best sound ever! Well, that’s the scoop from our neck of the woods…er…cacti. Until next time.
