Postponed

February 18, 2013 by Josh and Erin Verdonck

That’s the word they used when they called us, and broke our hearts.

After our {encouraging} interview at the NTM home-office a couple weeks ago, we received a phone call telling us that the Associate Board had decided we would benefit from another year of training; and so our fast-track to PNG at the end of this year was postponed until next year. They are giving us the opportunity to attend a year of Bible school in either Waukesha, WI, or Jackson, MI.

This was a discouraging blow to us, as we were already in the mindset of being in Papua New Guinea, and had even begun downsizing our possessions for our upcoming moves. We reminded ourselves that the Lord was still in this, and that this was still part of His plan – which would bring even more glory to His kingdom. Even through that, it was hard at first for us to get excited, and we went through times of heartbreak and even anger, but there was an underlying peace behind it all {the kind of peace you want to ignore because you’re mad} that this was exactly where we needed to be. Josh and I became a bit anti-social for a while; the thought of facing people and pretending to be excited while our hearts were broken just hurt even more.

In the grand scheme of things, it only took a couple of days for us to get past that and to really start getting excited about going to Bible school. New friends, a bigger support system, a better understanding of the Word and the mission. This is a huge opportunity for us to continue to grow and serve Him better!

Even though I don’t understand why this happened, I know that it is for the best and that God’s hand is on this, and that we are still resting in His plan.

We’re still moving in July, but this time we’re moving to the great, cold North for a year of Bible training at New Tribes Bible Institute. After they put their stamp of approval on us, we’ll move from there down to McNeal, AZ for another couple of months of flight training with NTMA. Once we’re finished there, then we’ll be on our way to Papua New Guinea.

I have no doubts that this is where the Lord has us right now, so I plan on blooming where I am and clinging to Him and His Word as He fills me with a new kind of excitement for a different place that will still lead us to PNG in His time!
