My friend recently told me that she always knows how I am feeling because it’s written on my face. I’ve never been good at hiding how I am doing. I suppose whether that is a good or bad thing, depends on the situation. So, in true form, I am going to be completely honest.
I am writing this in a season of discouragement mixed with a little frustration. (My prayer is to learn through it, but also that it is a short season.) Guys, living in another culture is hard. Functioning in another language that isn’t your own and that you haven’t mastered is hard. Not having the independence that you are used to having is hard. Feeling isolated and alone at times is hard.
I think that the most frustrating thing about this season of discouragement and frustration is the fact that it isn’t based on one situation. If it were, it would most likely have an end in sight. Yes, today I am feeling it a bit more because of one situation, but it’s not been only today. It’s been a few weeks of discouragement slipping in.
So after being angry for a few hours today, and processing, I come back to truth.
The truth is, that no matter what situation or how many changes we face, God is unchanging.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
The truth is, no matter how scared or alone I may feel today, God is with me wherever I go.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The truth is, no matter how hard today is, tomorrow is new and full of mercy.
“Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:23 (NLT)
The truth is, I can direct my soul, despite my feelings, towards worship and truth.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, And all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases; Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with lovingkindess and compassion; Who satisfies your years with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle.” Psalm 103:1-5
But most of all, the truth is, as a friend of mine reminded me tonight, no matter the circumstances of my life, no matter the difficulties, no matter the frustrations, no matter the discouragement, He is worthy.
“And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are You to take the book and to break its seals; for You were slain, and purchased for God with Your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation.”
Your honesty is refreshing, Kaylee. It’s important to share these times so that people can pray effectively, and they will. These seasons come and go, but knowing that godly friends are going before the Throne for you serves as an encouragement. And don’t forget that you are in a huge spiritual battle. You are not dealing with flesh and blood. Run to the Father, submit to Him, resist the enemy and claim God’s promises that the devil HAS to flee. I am praying that way for you, too. A big hug from FL.
