The Hewa People of Papua New Guinea invited us to live with them in 2000. They are an extremely isolated group of people in the mountains of PNG. In our location they did not have God’s Word to read. The did NOT clearly understand the message of God’s grace.
We spent the first 4 years in Hewa learning the language and culture. We developed an alphabet that allowed us to write the Hewa language. We then taught the Hewa to read and write their own language.
We translated key portions of The Bible and developed lessons so that we could share God’s story from the creation of the world through the life and work of Jesus Christ. In October of 2005 we completed this teaching and about 25 folks expressed their belief in Christ alone for their salvation.
We had the opportunity to teach through Acts, Romans, and Ephesians with the church as they grew and share with others their new faith in Christ. We thank God for allowing us to be a part of this church plant and for allowing the Hewa church to continue to grow through The Word and the hard work of other missionaries that have taken up the baton to finish the task.
In recent years we have been involved in leadership of NTM-PNG as a whole. We love serving with our colleagues on a unified team. What a privilege to work alongside folks with many skills, but one desire – to see GOD receive glory from the least reach people groups of Papua New Guinea. Please pray for us as we seek to keep NTM-PNG’s focus on seeing the least reached have access to the BEST NEWS of Jesus Christ.
