This week has been full of excitement, relief and moderate temperatures. We taught on Jesus death, burial and resurrection at the Lighthouse on Thursday and I finished my 2 week + language problem.
We’ve been teaching chronologically through the Bible at the Lighthouse (halfway house for drug addicts) for the last 10 weeks and this Thursday, we finally taught on the most important events this world has known. Two of the guys did not have much understanding of Biblical concepts coming into it, so it was important for them to hear it from the beginning.
Slowly, week by week, they began to understand that they themselves were helpless sinners, separated eternally from God… they saw that God punished sin yet provided a way for people to come to Him. They read prophecies on things that would be true of the Deliverer and saw those things true of Jesus. And this Thursday, they saw that Jesus, the Son of God, willingly took the punishment that we deserved.
After the teaching, both of the guys talked about what they understood, and it seemed clear that they understood and believed the Gospel. So we are excited that there are two new believers this week! There were two other guys who I think were already believers, but benefited from some foundational teaching. We look forward to God working in all their lives as they walk with Him.
In other, less dramatic news, on Wednesday, I put the finishing touches on my 2 week language problem. It was a huge relief. I had been working almost non-stop the last 3 or 4 days to get it done. The rest of the homework this semester is smaller assignments. Alisha has started to pack things up. We will leave here sometime between May 24-28ish and make the drive home. When the fall semester starts in mid-August, we will go to Oklahoma and spend 7 weeks there, followed by 3 more here in Missouri before we are done.
Praise:
-Our new brothers in Christ at the Lighthouse
-Being done with much homework
Prayer:
-Wrapping things up here
-Raising support
-For some good time with our churches and families this summer
Thanks for praying!
